FrontPage Tips and Tricks

Collapsible Bullets.....If you check the Enable Collapsible Outline checkbox in the Bullets and Numbering dialog, FrontPage will automatically create a bulleted or numbered list that your users can expand or collapse at the click of a button!

Browsing for Hyperlinks.....When you are inserting a hyperlink, simply click the icon in the Hyperlink dialog that looks like a globe with a magnifying glass and it will open your Web browser. You can then browse to the URL for your link and when you switch back to FrontPage, that URL will automatically be entered.

Format Painter Part 2 Earlier this year, I introduced you to the Format Painter in FrontPage. Just place the insertion point inside a section with the formatting you want to paint and then click the Format Painter toolbar button (it looks like a paint brush.) Then click any part of a page to paint the formatting from the original location.

Here's another tip. If you double-click on the Format Painter button, you can paste the formatting over and over again by just clicking on your page. To turn off the Format Painter and go back to a regular mode, simply click the Format Painter button once again.

Quick Scroll. Right-click on the scroll bar at the right edge of the FrontPage window and you can quickly scroll to a specific position, scroll to the top of the page, scroll to the bottom of the page, etc.

Front Page tips from Jimco
A favicon is an icon that appears in the address bar and in the Favorites list when you visit a particular Web site. Not all Web sites have them, but many do, and it really adds a nice personal touch to your site. In fact, our Web site (www.jimcosoftware.com) has a favicon that looks like a reversed FrontPage symbol.

Creating a favicon is simple using the free generator located at http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/. Just upload an image and it will generate a favicon file for you that you can use right away in your Web site.

For more information on favicons, see the W3C page located here:
http://www.w3.org/2005/10/howto-favicon

There are links from there to other interesting pages on the topic as well.

A good free page counter....just click the link and off ya go, just paste code where you want the counter to show....you need to have a unique code for each page you want to monitor....this has no effect on server stats...but great for checking on the one or two pages you would like to check for its popularity

Windows XP has a little known holding area called the ClipBook. As most people know, when you cut or copy items they are temporarily stored on the Windows Clipboard until you cut or copy another piece of information, which overwrites the first. The ClipBook Viewer is used to view the information you have copied to the Clipboard or to store information that you can use again.
You won't find the ClipBook Viewer on your Start menu anywhere, so you need to create a shortcut for it. To create the shortcut, follow these steps:
1. Right-click on an empty area of your desktop and choose New|Shortcut.
2. In the Create Shortcut Wizard type %windir%\system32\clipbrd.exe, and then click Next.
3. Give the shortcut a more meaningful name like ClipBook and click Finish.
Now to open the viewer, double-click your new ClipBook shortcut. You see a window called Clipboard that shows you whatever the last thing was that you cut or copied. Finding out what's on the Clipboard is only mildly interesting, but you also can use the ClipBook Viewer to cut or copy information from another program and store it in a page that you can name and save. You can even share your ClipBook Viewer pages with other people who have the ClipBook Viewer installed.
For such a tiny program, it has rather detailed online help. It actually can be quite useful for sharing little snippets of information, so if you're curious, choose Help|Contents for all the detailed step-by-step information.   (http://www.computorcompanion.com)
